Mapxus Unveils Proof of Concept for Accessible Navigation Map Solution at Taipei Main Station

January 14, 2025

We are excited to share that Mapxus participated in the Taipei Smart City Innovation Pilot Project 2024 - Achievement Presentation on December 24, 2024. Organized by the Taipei City Department of Information Technology (DOIT), the event spotlighted groundbreaking advancements under the theme "AI Leading the Future Metropolis".

During the presentation, our COO, Ocean Ng, conducted a sharing session to highlight the outcomes of our Proof of Concept (PoC) project, which was successfully completed in October 2024. The PoC showcased Mapxus' cutting-edge indoor positioning and navigation solutions, designed to tackle the challenges of navigating the complex transit environment of Taipei Main Station.

Background: Navigating Taipei Main Station

As a central hub for various transportation services—including the Taipei Metro, Taiwan Railways, Taiwan High-Speed Rail, and Taipei Bus Station—Taipei Main Station plays a crucial role in the city's infrastructure. Not only is the facility a key transit point, but it also houses a vibrant array of facilities, including numerous shops, restaurants, and more. With its multi-level design, which includes underground floors and myriad connections, travelers often find themselves needing assistance to navigate efficiently. This underscores the importance of effective wayfinding solutions to enhance user experience.

Project Overview

The PoC provided digital twin indoor maps, rich points of interest (POI) information, and various types of navigation routes—including barrier-free routes, multilingual support (including Traditional Chinese, English and some Japanese), and real-time location sharing—through Mapxus' mobile app and web app to cater to everyone’s mobility needs. Unlike traditional solutions, this approach eliminates additional hardware installation, enabling the rapid deployment of highly efficient, cost-effective, precise, and digitally integrated indoor maps.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Taipei City Government Department of Transportation, DOIT, Taipei Smart City Project Management Office, and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation. Our gratitude also goes to the diverse group of accessibility testers for their invaluable support and assistance, which contributed greatly to this initiative.

This successful event marks another step toward our vision of smarter and more accessible cities. At Mapxus, we remain committed to developing innovative solutions that make indoor spaces more inclusive for everyone. We believe that no one should feel lost indoors. We appreciate all our partners and participants for making this milestone possible.
